During a work session, the City Council discussed the STR Committee’s 25-page report evaluating potential changes to the city’s short-term rental policies. The council completed the annexation process for a 12-acre parcel in the city’s urban growth boundary at its regular session. Mayor Kathryn Stock described a string of petitions for a referendum and four initiatives filed by Randy Kugler that challenge the city’s management of the water utility.

The Planning Commission gave the initial go-ahead to a cottage cluster proposal for the tornado-damaged property west of Third Street. The new city hall will get solar panels. The first reading of Ordinance 24-04 is an annexation of 12.54 acres to support affordable housing.

City officials held a groundbreaking celebration for the new city hall and police station on April 6. We explain how the city will pay for that construction. At its regular meeting the City Council heard about Neah Kah Nie School District’s five-year plan, adopted 2024 goals, approved engagement of a Comprehensive Plan consultant, appointed citizens to the Comprehensive Plan Public Advisory Steering Committee, and decided other administrative matters.
